Teacher. Coach. Dad. Grandpa.
A route that wasn’t a straight line.

The work is about systems.
The reason for the work is people.

Built from the space between

Why I Started Why3Works

I kept seeing good people doing good work: schools creating opportunities, employers opening doors, and community partners providing support.

Too often, the connections were missing: students could not see the next step, employers needed a way to participate, and partners lacked time to coordinate.

I started Why3Works to help close those gaps.

Built From the Space Between: an illustrated river valley connecting people, ideas, and opportunity.
Why the “3”?

The name reflects the value of bringing perspectives together—such as K–12, postsecondary, and industry. Purpose • Partnerships • Pathways expresses what connects the work.

Someone Gave Me Room to Grow

Ed Slater didn’t hand me a career pathway. He helped create the conditions for me to discover one.

A boss gave me room to grow.

Someone Helped Me See the Route

My wife helped me find a path into teaching.

Sometimes people aren’t lacking ambition. They simply can’t see the route.

I Should Have Said, “Tell Me More.”

Students challenged my assumptions and shaped how I listen.

Understand before you assume.

The person behind the work

A Coach. A Sports Guy.
A Dad. A Grandpa.

From youth development to teaching and regional partnerships, my work has centered on helping people see possibilities and find a next step.

I’m a husband, dad, grandpa, coach, and sports guy. Relationships shape how I work: listen first, be clear, and follow through.

When you hire Why3Works, you work directly with me—from defining the challenge to carrying out the agreed work.

Different settings.
The same focus on people.
